Work in Progress

It's still snowy ...we've got colds AGAIN so we've been doing crafty things...

Older d "Blogger Kate" has the knitting bug

And I succumbed to temptation and a discount 50% off voucher from JOANN'S store and bought myself a needle felting pen. I watched a tutorial from

HERE

the puppy instructions start at 2 mins 50 seconds and shes very clear and good!

Gathered together..sponge, felting tool, tops and a pipe cleaner and I was off.
My first attempt was a miniature cat or was it a dog? anyway it wasn't perfect but worked well enough to be promising. Then we tried using mini cookie cutters as moulds.

The sponge base is 1/2 a car-wash sponge wrapped in a scrap of sheet, this makes a base to work on. The wool scraps are merino tops (combed wool)

Younger d "Cute Kitten" spotted me trying my new toy and had to have a go..she was very careful and decided to make sheep ..then decided they looked more like sheepdogs and gave them some balls to play with.. making the balls big enough caused the loss of a couple of the felting needles ..they don't like jabbing at an angle oops..(Why I didn't think to buy spares I don't know..)

still much fun was had by all...and it's still snowing...heavily fiddle dee dee

  1. They're awesome! I love needle felting, but I've never made little figures before. I know someone who attaches brooch (sp?) pins to the back so you can wear them.

  2. I like the cat/dog very much-it has character. Not snowing here but it's very cold again...

  3. I've got needle felting on my list of things to do. I think your little critter looks excellent. The cookie cutter method looks fun.

Blogger Kate - your knitting skills are improving all the time. I like the colours you've chosen.

  6. It's stopped snowing ..and it was huge flakes of fluffy wet snow so it's disappearing fast.

The colds are Much better so off to school and I've been catching up ...just a bit

Sofar apart from broken needles the needle felting looks like it's going to great fun and very simple.

The cookie cutters seemed a good way for the girls to have a go..the molds they make are expensive and looked just like cookie cutters ...so...

the video on how to make a simple creature was really clear and gave me the confidence to have a go!

Kate says "Thank you very much" and is glowing :0)

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
