Otters, Eagles,Glaciers and Mosquitoes

Back for a few days rest and recuperation after our first Sea Kayak trip (we had a practice run on the lake first ...We arrived back last night totally tired out and ready for a rest and a bit sore and itchy but very happy. (the Mosquitoes round here can be voracious feeders and they enjoyed munching on us ...still we had bug spray and more important anti itch cream .... )

We loaded the Kayaks and drove to Homer for five days Kayak camping at Kachemak Bay State Park see
here
and here
I'll post more snaps tomorrow

Crossing the bay by Water Taxi Homer Ocean Charters did a really Great Job

First night was at Right Beach the next two at Humpy Creek which was a bit interesting to land Kayaks on and rather buggy but beautiful! Both bridges were down on the creek so we had to wade and the water was rather cold!

We walked the trail as far as the tram across the River then tested it... not really a me thing I confess

After walking the trails we moved camp and kayaked with the tide to the trail head at Glacier Spit and camped 1/2 way between the trail head and Rusty's lagoon.

This gave us access to The Grewingk Glacier lake trail and it was a beauty..lovely flowers a decent walk and a beautiful lake with icebergs at the end!
The ice was beautiful blues and tasted lovely we filled our water bottles and sucked on pieces on the walk back to camp.

If I was a better photographer I could post a snap of the sea otters playing...we saw them but my photos didn't catch them ! I should've snapped the mozzies it would've been easier.

Then on the last day we returned to Right beach to explore the cliffs and tide pools and went for a last Kayak into the start of Halibut cove where we saw hanging star fish , harbour seals inspected us and Otters played in the sea around us excellent and the sun was out! An Eagle also amazed us by diving into the sea catching a large fish and swimming with it to a rock scrambling out and eating his breakfast...now that was something we'd never seen before... very special

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
