Aren't they totally cute. Only two have hatched... but we are happy. Buying hatching eggs via mail during the Hurricane season really challenges hatching rates.
The mainly yellow fluffy effort hatched on Thursday ..the black sploded last night. They are very very friendly and chatty and will go back to school for the weekdays for a few weeks so the children can see them grow.
The yellow shelf in the back ground is actually the brooder from Brinsea an Ecoglow
It is working really well so far and was an Early Christmas present to me. It uses very little power and hopefully is a lot safer than a heat lamp.
I think this little one approves anyway!
They were hatched on Thursday and Friday respectively and are eating and drinking and chatting. I think we may be having ducklings joining the Guinea pigs in the laundry this Winter...

DeleteThey are so adorable. I'm interested in the brooder, and will look into it. We don't have chicks hatch here, but we do get day old chicks in the mail and have always used a heat lamp. Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteI got that one from Amazon Nan and so far (touch wood) it works really well. It uses very little power and was not cheap (just under $80 )but we are very happy with it ..they seem to have learned that when tired or chilly that's where you head... at first we just kept an eye on them and popped them under after they'd eaten and had a drink and they nestled down. Lovely :o)
Deleteforgot to add ..sofar we've been very happy with Brinsea products they sometimes cost more but the incubator we bought 13 or 14 years ago ? is still going strong and working fine ..but even it had trouble with hatching eggs that were rerouted and delayed by Hurricanes ..so we can't blame it this time ..we started hatching mailed eggs after we had so little success with mailed day olds when we lived in the South East of Alaska ..it seemed cruel to order them as most of them didn't arrive alive..it was very sad. (too tricky a journey I think)
DeleteHaven't been here in a while and what a lovely surprise. Ducklings this time of year! I spend a fair amount of time in the park looking at ducks with the grandson. He would go wild if he saw these!
ReplyDeleteIt's a daft time for them isn't it! The Laundry is getting crowded with ducks and Guinea pigs... your Grandson would have fun with these pair as they are so tame and friendly!
