When shut indoors for too long with the much loved offspring after a while it becomes apparent that what they need is a really "Good Walk" in order for sanity to be preserved and harmony to return to our small house ..we love it , it's cosy.... but on a cold dark day the walls press tight and rambunctious girls need exercise and fresh air.
This was the case on Saturday ...so we set off for a good walk to the Municipal Greenhouse based in our nearby park. Not a long walk just over three miles round trip ...but on a cold day on icy paths it was enough to restore sanity!
The Greenhouse is lovely ..it's not huge, is open daily 8am to 3pm. Is free. Has seats, is warm and light, has a fish pool with koi carp and an aviary with Parakeets, fiches and budgies....and I'm informed ladybugs too

On the way home we stopped to play at the different parks we passed. Anchorage is a great city for parks! The Polar bear park is very new and wonderful to look at. Even on a very cold day.
Then it was home for hot drinks and tea and curling up with good books by the stove ...and everyone was in a much better mood. (Thank Goodness)

I wish cats could be taken out for walks on dark, wet days - the squabbling and bullying that goes on is shocking!
ReplyDeletelol.... Ours are just as bad ..and the dog has taken to trying to scramble into my lap if he thinks that's where one of the cats wants to be...(unless it's the smallest cat Darwin ..he has a healthy respect for her...... he chased her into the bedroom and cornered her and she had to show him how good her aim was and how sharp her claws are ...now he knows)
ReplyDeleteMy gran was also a firm believer in the restorative effects of a good walk in the fresh air. That and a dose of syrup of figs. Love those collages.
ReplyDeleteOooh 'syrup of figs' if that didn't fix it 'Andrews Liver salts' my kids don't know what they're missing!
ReplyDeletere collages... Some people can resist a free app...but obviously not me lol
I had images of the the municipal greenhouse being a place you could keep your plants if you didn't have a greenhouse, but I guess its like municipal park. You can't just go and plant your own shrubs in it. Nothing like an outing to lighten the mood. The polar bear slide is something else!
ReplyDeleteThere are huge greenhouses where they grow all the plants for the Parks and traffic islands and I think perhaps they will look after plants for a fee?
ReplyDeleteBut the Greenhouse that is open is just for pleasure...although they do have a cuttings box by the door where they leave any spare cuttings they have available that you may take home :0)
You are quite right that bear slide is something else and very popular :0)
(Your comments section dislikes me again... so if I don't make appreciative comments it's only because I can't...but I am thinking good things! :o) )
