A short break.... Cough Cough

Actually it was a long break ....we got whooping cough...We thought it was a flu virus that wouldn't go away ..and I was really puzzled why youngest daughter didn't join in ...she's usually the first to catch yukky viruses and they aren't nice to her..but this time she remained untouched ..most strange..until we finally realized what we had...yes we were vaccinated.... but they wear out ...who knew? we didn't ....bit of a oops that .
Well we are now on the mend , although the addition of a cold has elder daughter coughing again.
It's a horrid bug, I really don't recommend it ...If you get the chance I'd suggest keeping your vaccinations well up to date!  (Eldest daughter wasn't due for her booster until next year but the protection had worn off before then...you live and learn..and cough quite a bit)

Ah well on a different and Much Brighter note

I Nearly suffered heat stroke ..the junior charmers insisted on the correct amount of candles for me and also decorated the cake with the Christmas cake reindeer...who now has no antlers as the resultant firestorm melted them off...... lovely cake mind...they made and decorated it "All by themselves" totally actually ...very yummy Lucky me :0)

  1. Glad you are feeling better. I had no idea that it wears off. In a shop yesterday and could hear the characteristic cough of whopping cough. Hmm. I hope not.

Poor reindeer. I'm a christmas-time baby, so my cake usually has similar decorations (I wish I could say less candles!)

Hope you are having a good weekend!

    1. I think the deer will make to the next Christmas cake ...we just might have to be inventive to give him antlers.
We've been crafting mini projects with felt, bags, pipe cleaner dolls etc between snuffles and coughs so we're having fun in spite of it (serious energy shortage though)

  2. Belated happy birthday! I didn't manage to count the candles! Good to hear you've recovered from whooping cough. My girlie's mister managed to catch it at Christmas.

  3. Belated happy birthday!
I didn't know that stuff about vaccinations wearing out - do you think your immunity persists if you had whooping cough in childhood (as I did)?

    1. From what I've read so far ...having whooping cough gives you protection for 7 to 20 years ....that range makes me think they're not sure!

    2. and other sites say decades of protection.....so erm I'm really not sure ...lol

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
