Each year the growth of the plants and the point reached by the animals in their life cycles varies considerably depending on the Winter that we, and they, have experienced. This year we had more snow, so the plants were not as well grown as last year by quite an amount.
The birds were courting and building nests not sitting or rearing yet.
I think we saw less seals than some seasons. We saw Hoary Marmots, no porcupines this year. Bear poop and paws prints, but no bears. (Fine by me) Sea birds, shorebirds, ducks, Geese, Hummingbirds, Eagles. Western Shore crows I think we saw less seals than some seasons. We saw otters I almost spotted the birds in the woods well enough to identify one ...almost....but not quite.
We didn't see voles ..though I'm sure the dog did. A squirrel was spotted though (a first at that location).
The plants on the shore have to be tough and grow quickly. The tides here are high and the top of the gravel spit is the best spot to pitch your tent. Not least because the sea fliters through to the shallow areas behind this bank at high tides. The tides go up and down by quite the number of feet. The lowest tide of our stay was a -1.4 the highest a 12.3 (tides can top 15 feet there and go lower than -3)
The Dune grass is tough and does it's best, amonst it grows Seawatch, Beach peas, Beach lovage,
Daisies, Chocolate Lilies. Behind them an asssortment of Willows, Alders, Ferns, Spruce and Hemlock.
The violets weren't flowering yet. But an assortment of plants on the cliff face were.
Decent photographs from a professional are here
My snaps are more hit & miss memories.

Each day ducks paddled along the shore feeding timing the tides for diving depth .
this squabbly crew were regulars they dived and shouted at each other never a dull moment ..everyone seemed to have a point of view.
I believe they are Surf Scooters info here
