Very Cold sled dog race anyone

The Iditarod started last Saturday and we've had snow and a cold snap since then.
Now their temperatures make ours look warm ..but when the whole household has fluey colds 9 degrees f feels cold.
But at least we aren't out in minus 35...ouch

  1. What larks! I love the way those dogs always look like they're raring to go. I think I'd bundle up to see that intrepid bunch cross the finishing line!

  2. We had a little go* at dog sledding in Churchill last October (with a man who does the Iditarod every year) but I think that might be a step too far for us just yet!

*You can see our attempt here:

  3. You'd have to fly 540 airmiles from Anchorage to see the finish Rachel.. Nome is quite out there. see

...but it would be fun to see the finish , we've watched the start before which is good fun and only 5 mins down the road..this year the kids had fluey colds and shared..hopefully next year

Love the photos Liz..it does look fun ..I'd enter in my imagination but in reality the cold can get a bit painful!

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
