I had to check my bookcase. I have a copy of The Girl's Own Annual from the same era, but not the same year. No knitting patterns, but it did show you how to go bird hunting with a camera and how to make moss trees.
The titles a bit misleading Rachel it's the "Girls Own and Womens Magazine" I think ...so not a young girls magazine (I bet even their young daughters could probably knit the socks off me though!) I'll post a few more extracts as I get the chance
If you hold your nose to the Grindstone and you leave it there long enough, Then soon you'll say there's no such things as brooks that babble and birds that sing, these three will all your world compose, just you, the stone and your poor old nose.
Soooo cool! are you going to make it?
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'm not a good enough knitter yet Jodi...but I'd like to try it eventually :)
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern! A bit daunting though - did girls really knit so well?
