Dipping another toe back in the water...

Image may contain: possible text that says 'SOCIAL DISTANCING A GUIDE FOR HISTORY FANS A SAFE DISTANCE IS A SPEAR LENGTH AWAY FROM THE SHIELD WALL'

Starting to read some blogs ....and reading some lovely posts..I must stop lurking and make a comment or two.

The house if full here with both students at home and their Dad (a teacher) working from home..well trying to... it's a work in progress.

Our city is in 'Hunker Down' mode and most stores and facilities are closed. But on the bright side there are stores in the grocery shops (at present) and we can enjoy the parks and trails if we keep quite the physical gap ...and people seem to be adapting well to that and are often more inclined to call a friendly greeting in these strange times. The dog must wonder why the holidays have come early this year.

The news ...is the news.... and I need to ration the time I spend looking at it ...otherwise it is infuriating/depressing/worrying all those adjectives and many more.

I also find too much news makes you start to feel unwell and a 'good walk' has the opposite effect so logic decrees exercise should win the day.

The ducks are happy that it's not so darn cold at night at the moment.. below freezing but not way below and the good quackers are laying nicely. Which in these times I truly appreciate.

Samuel West (son of Prunella Scales and Timothy West) is reading poems and uploading them to sound cloud for all to enjoy (which is both lovely and kind)

This week I intend to sew face masks using one of these tutorials and I'd like to work a little on family history as a sanity saver (I just hope I don't send others round the twist)

so ending good thoughts and wishes I'm off to make a coffee and to gather up a tub of fire wood
you just take care xxxx

  1. Sending good thoughts to you too, Val. Nice to see you here.

Yes, news rationing is very necessary. I just feel unsettled until I see the news, then I'm terrified! We're pretty much on lockdown in the UK. Devon has a few cases and a few deaths, London is the worst hit by far, I suppose that's to be expected. The worse thing for me is not seeing my family. Boredom is not an issue at all, books, knitting, jigsaws, social media, all keep me busy, and soon we'll be in the garden starting the veggies off.

You take care and stay safe.

    1. Truly strange times ...I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for our family (and shall for yours too) Your header is lovely ..looking and listening to nature is the only calming thing at the moment..that and some music ..otherwise I have the nervous fidgets ...

  2. Strange times for sure. I followed every trace of news at first to try and make sense of it, but now I'm limiting myself. Laying ducks seems so much more important this year. We have one hen left. We were going to get more this year, but suddenly everyone is into hen keeping and we can't get any for love or money. Lockdown doesn't help. Bless her. She is laying. I'm fascinated by your table. If I'm reading it right, I need to be cutting up my vacuum bags to make masks. Part of me wants to try it! Hope you are all staying safe.

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
