Pancake day
image (which I love) is from
here
Gosh this year is going fast...it's Pancake day already.
I found a lovely site HERE that explains Pancake Day / Shrove Tuesday as it's celebrated in the UK and in other parts of the world HERE Which nicely enlightened youngest daughter on Mardi Gras which had been puzzling her (and me too I must confess):o)
So we made pancakes for breakfast and the girls both took turns tossing and catching them in the pan...which was fun and they were surprisingly good at it! The collie likes them too but was rationed much to his disgust and No one dropped one in spite of him eyeing us hopefully.
Recipe.
We used
two eggs,
1 and 1/3 cups of flour (sifted),
2 cups of milk
and 2 tablespoons of oil
all lightly beaten together
then cooked in a lightly greased pan over a moderate heat,
flipped when the first side was set,
then flipped again for fun and served with sugar (and a squirt of lemon)
Very Yummy

My Blog List... Chatty
My Blog List interesting
from an old gravestone
If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.
(from memory so may not be word perfect)

I arrived home from a few days of visiting grandchildren just in time to make our pancakes. My recipe was the same as yours except for the oil. I know some people add oil or melted butter to their batter but I prefer it without. We no longer have a dog to clear up any dropped pancakes, so I caught them all!
ReplyDeleteOh well caught girl!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about the oil addition but it does seem to make them more flexible to toss...but I think it makes them need the lemon too.
I hope you had a great time with the Granchildren...I bet you did :0)
I completely forgot it was pancake day. Gutted.
ReplyDeleteOh Cath that was me last year! (and the year before...)
DeleteWe had ours (sugar & lemon, of course) for breakfast. The dogs watched hopefully, but I can toss pancakes without mishap, so no treats for them! I;m going to explore that website now - I have no idea why Mardi Gras!
ReplyDeleteFat Tuesday apparently ..I knew I should've paid attention in French...
DeleteThe Collie wants to know if he can fly across and go for walks with you and Flossie ..he says they look just like his kind of walk/runs!
Photo is awesome! The recipe inspiring. I do love pancakes. I just found a recipe for one called a Dutch baby. Have you ever heard of it? I haven't tried it yet but I must. BTW, I answered your question about the book - Sherlock Holmes - but I must confess, I was only pretending to read, as my son in law was having me pose for the photo.
ReplyDeleteNo I've never heard of a Dutch baby Jodi (well not in the pancake sense ..lol)
ReplyDeleteThat photo looks lovely and relaxing :0)
Boo ate (inhaled, more like) his first pancake. We thought it best not to pour syrup on his.
ReplyDeleteDogs know a good thing when they see one don't they...I think No syrup was a wise choice :0)
