Glimpses of Summer 1

If you start out here...

and walk this way...

after a mile and a half you reach this view...

But you keep going for this view...

/>

And when you make it to the top of the trail , you can collapse and regain your breath and eat a snack and when you feel refreshed pick berries....Blueberries and crow berries that day.

and when you finally make it back down ..hot and very tired! it's fun to do this...

  1. What a view. You make it sound like an easy jaunt.Best kind of walks, with good company as well.

  2. lol Actually Cheryl it's a bit of a killer..it's only 2.6 miles but it's a height gain of 1,800 feet ..I should have posted the photo of the girls on the halfway up bench ..they were puce in the face and not smiling..their friend nearly staged a lie down strike on the last third ...but they made it! and then all was fine..can I confess we all ached for the next few days...

there is something about jollying along kids when you think you may be in grave danger of expiring oneself...lol

  7. It is very lovely Cath..at first it seems beautiful but very harsh and raw almost... It's not rich and green and pleasant with the air full of birdsong like the UK but it's beauty grows on you and has a magic of it's own. I'm smitten :0)

  9. Val, thank you for your well-wishes. You are so right about the cloud of dread. The hard part was keeping it a secret until I knew for sure. I didn't want my very pregnant daughter to worry. What a relief!

What an amazing hike! And what a place to live - wow. Do you have to be careful not to meet up with bears?

  10. I'm so glad it was good news Jodi..having to disguise your worry and not only be yourself but display the extra optimism needed when a baby is due must have been so hard. You did so well and extra celebrations are in order all round :0)

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
