Yarn Along

Joining Ginny of "Small things" Blog on her Yarn Along

Letters from Father Christmas by JRR Tolkein is the enjoyable read aloud we have on the go at the moment.(It was a Christmas present from My Brother and his partner ...HUGE THANK YOU) The felt animals didn't get completed for Christmas but no one seems to mind. So now they are getting sweaters ..although the guesswork pattern has created a rather large sweater for the kitten and what looks on the needles like a too small sweater for the puppy ...guess I better start again! The advantages of knitting in miniature means starting again is not a trauma :0)

  1. that's so cute! ...it must go so fast! - knitting such miniature sweaters! sounds like fun - and something adequate for my knitting speed :D

I love JRR Tolkien!!! but I've never read Letters from Father Christmas... I should add it to my list of books I want to read next christmas - so I won't forget :) and I'll have enough time to find the book - I hope :)

  2. Loving the Letters. Thrilled to see that the children used their own method of Elf Mail. If only I could say "Great Minds" but I'm not sure that I would measure up!

The sweater and felt buddies are sweet. I love the wool. You are right. Miniature is a great way to experiment, as it doesn't hurt so much when it has to be undone.

  3. I haven't hear of that letters book. Will look that up...

Oddly, as well as jigsaw puzzling, I feel like taking up knitting again. My reading will definitely suffer.

  5. Thanks nocton4!

Jarka it's a very simple idea done well (with No Santa spoilers except a teeny one in the intro)

Cheryl I think you'd measure up fine :0)

Cath ..I remember a friends mum had a special reading gadget that held her book whilst she sat in her easy chair and knit away! (I need full concentration for knitting so haven't tried it myself..lol)

Hi Jenletts..I think mini knits match my patience and skill level ..so I may have to make a few :0)

  8. You've reminded me that I have a copy of that book, bought for me by the mister many years ago. I like the idea of knitting in miniature. Might mean I could actually finish something.

  9. Inch square sweaters are my only recent knitting achievement ...lol
As I managed two yesterday ...that means I've now made a total of 4 (in about 4 months lol)
Miniature is the way to go! Your completed knitting projects will soar :0)

(Do I sound like a dubious TV ad?)

Now I can be Blase and mention the number of sweaters I've completed just providing no one asks about the size.....

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
