Washing China properly..

Jet lag plus China equals....

Just made it back after two weeks (almost) in the UK visiting family.
As usual it went far, far too fast... and due to the fact I'm always disorganized my blog post saying we were off never became a reality...

But we did catch our planes, survive the journeys (poor youngest threw up on each stage of the outbound journey and in between at the airports but not once on the way back thank goodness)and made all our connections and my Brill sister collected us from and delivered us too Airports (Thanks Sis)

Excitement was added by the Volcano closing Manchester airport the day before we were due to fly from there on the first part of our flights home....so too much of the last day was spent researching trains to Germany to catch our main flight as being a Charter ticket bought separately, it was make the flight or lose the tickets (ouch) if we'd had through tickets we'd just have enjoyed an extended break ...

Anyway the airport opened and the flight was Ok and we made it back in one piece! as did the small china sugar bowl I'd packed inside the girls socks and undies..

it didn't however survive my jetlagged brain in a fit of post journey efficiency throwing all the clothes in the washer....

So this morning when emptying the washer I found a small pretty china sugar bowl minus 1 handle in with the washing.................

Talk about woolly brained and foolish... at least the lid survived inside more socks and I have the pieces of the broken handle so with some glue and possibly a little fimo to fill in any tiny gaps ...? (any hints anyone)
It may live on to tell it's tale of adventure....

Well no more posts 'till I've had some cups of tea and a rest, as the spell checker on blogger is telling me that my brain is not yet fully functional (is it ever?)
I shall drink tea and catch up on everyone else's blogs how lovely!

(Maybe then I can take in focus photos?...who knows?)

  1. Welcome back, Val! Try Super Glue, it works realy well. We've broken many a sugar bowl over here.

  2. Glad you had a good time in the UK. Sorry to hear about the sugar bowl. It is exactly the sort of thing I would have done too. Least the weather was good - no snow!

  3. I agree with using super glue. I've even used one designed for glass and could hardly see the join. (That was on a chandelier that I bought on ebay...only 1 bit broken on a journey from Germany packed in egg boxes!). Looking forward to more posts re the holiday.

  4. Welcome back. Your sugar bowl looks as if it already has a history so a patched up handle should just add interest. I look forward to pictures and details of your UK visit.

  6. Sorry, but that did make me laugh - worse than washing a wallet or a bus pass! I hope it repairs easily; it's very pretty.

  7. There you are! Shame about the breakage, especially after all of those air miles, but I break stuff all the time. Mind you, I've haven't yet put pots in the washing machine!

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
