A New Day...

For the States a new beginning, a general feeling of optimism pervades the air, unless I was imagining it the smiles on peoples faces dropping off their children to Kindergarten were wider this morning... I know this is Alaska but we do live in a very mixed area of the city where Obama stickers have appeared. Will Ted Stevens be reelected ? it remains to be seen, it'll certainly be close, the Nurse I saw today was speechless after asking her husband "You didn't vote for a convicted felon ...did you ?" to be met with the reply "there's never been a Democrat I can listen to" she was NOT impressed.

A cold cloudy day, the mountains had a bluish tinge to the snow this morning, a long day for the girls as they had a Girl scout meeting after school and celebrations last night meant a later bedtime. A chapter of Kelpie the Gipsies' pony by Ursula Moray Williams this evening (Oldest D. choice) followed by a chapter of a Secret Seven on the Trail by Enid Blyton (Youngest D. Choice) then two more chapters of Secret Seven special joint request. Must remember to read this in the mornings not at night as they found it most exciting..settled for sleep they were not..fizzing would be a better description.

  1. Hello Val, I just saw your name as a 'follower' on my blog. Thank you.

Having read your posts here, I'm guessing that you have recently started blogging, so good luck with that. I'll add a link to you on my sidebar so you may get a few new visitors.

I see, too, that you have completed a course of chemo, I hope that means you are recovering. I'm a breast cancer survivor and wish you well. I hope the hair keeps on growing - mine came back curly!

I love Lark Rise, although I had reservations about the TV adaptation. Judi Dench is one of my favourites so I'll look out for the audio book.

  2. Oh a Comment ...what a lovely surprise..I'm enjoying reading your blog, it's a nice mix of interesting and entertaining, lovely.
Actually I don't really deserve a comment yet as you've noticed I'm just a beginner and should really hide this blog from view until it's a little more respectable...(Ok a lot more respectable) How nice to meet a fellow BC survivor, two more weeks of chemo to go now...no...I'm wrong 1 now (yippee) then I get a tidy up op and to glow in the dark for 6 and 1/2 weeks after that..then a bit of reassessment and a get fit again plan..My hair is starting to grow back..which is great...but I swear to goodness it's looking grey and not brown/blonde (gulp)as my youngest kindly put it..."You don't look like a bald man anymore mummy....(you know it's coming...)You look like a grey haired man" she is just 6
    :) :) :)

from an old gravestone

If you hold your nose to the Grindstone
and you leave it there long enough,
Then soon you'll say
there's no such things
as brooks that babble
and birds that sing,
these three will all your world compose,
just you, the stone and your poor old nose.

(from memory so may not be word perfect)
